Q. In Paul Simon's hit song of 1976 how many ways did he sing to leave your lover? A. 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover. Paul Simon may have sung that there were 50 ways to leave your lover, but he only listed five, which are: 1) Slip out the back, Jack 2) Make a new plan, Stan 3) You don't need to be coy, Roy, just set yourself free 4) Hop on the bus, Gus 5) Drop of the key, Lee, and get yourself free According to Simon's younger brother Eddie, Paul made this song up while teaching his son how to rhyme. Even though he didn't take the lyrics too seriously, it's an interesting song, particularly for those who feel trapped in bad relationships.

CAT STEVENS ON 2020 ‘...

New to the GREAT DEALS WALL - selected CD's by Cat Stevens starting as low as $4.87 - while supplies last. Cat Stevens was born as Stephen Demetre Georgiou to a Swedish mother and Greek father. He became a Muslim in 1977. After 2 years, he took the name of Yusuf Islam. He has sold over 60 million albums around the world since the late 1960s as Cat Stevens or Yusuf Islam. Mona Bone Jakon (1970) marked the beginning of the Cat Stevens we know and love, forming alongside Teaser & the Firecat and Tea for the Tillerman the creative heart of Stevens's oeuvre. Though previous releases showcased his sticky burr of a voice and flashes of his songwriting brilliance, it was on Mona Bone that Stevens became disillusioned enough with the music industry to write more deeply introspective and personal songs. It's interesting to note that his disavowal of the biz ...

Q. What song became a big hit AGAIN thanks to a bunch of raisins? A. I Heard It Through The Grape Vine In 1987, this song got new life when it was used in commercials for California Raisins, with claymation raisins performing the song. In addition to boosting raisin sales, the California Raisins became an '80s fad and were the most popular Halloween costume that year. Buddy Miles – known as the founding member of The Electric Flag and as a member of Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys – was the group's lead singer. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles were the first to record the song, but their version wasn't released until years later on an album called Special Occasion. The Isley Brothers then took a crack at it, but their version wasn't released. Whitfield and Strong then had Marvin Gaye record the song but still no luck. ...

Trivia Q & A # 3 –...

Q. What British band is named after the man who invented the seed drill? A.. The answer is Jethro Tull (1674-1741), whose invention revolutionized farming. But why is he the name of a flute-heavy prog-rock band known for their hits "Aqualung" and "Cross-Eyed Mary"? When the first iteration of the group formed in 1963, they were The Blades. They cycled through a series of names over the next few years because they weren't very good, and it was easier to get re-booked at clubs if they pretended to be a different band (this according to their frontman, Ian Anderson). But in 1968 when they got a regular gig at the Marquee Club in London, they had to settle on a name. Their agent, a history buff, suggested Jethro Tull, so they went with it. When they released their first single, "Sunshine Day," later that year, the label was misprinted "Jethro Toe." Video ...

Q. Who's book is the Duran Duran song "Wild Boys" based on? A. This song is based on the 1971 novel of the same name by William Burroughs. In the book, packs of adolescent humanoids ravage the civilized nations of the Earth. When wholesale slaughter erupts, the battle continues underground where the survivors evolve into The Wild Boys. Duran Duran recorded the song because Russell Mulcahy, who directed their videos, bought the movie rights to the book and planned to make it into a film. The band wrote the song for the movie, which was never made. At the time, this was the most expensive video ever made. Nile Rodgers produced this song. He was a leader of the '70s disco group Chic.

Q. What innovative guitar player was banned from BBC TV in 1969? A. Jimi Hendrix was banned from the BBC after going off-script when he and his band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, appear on the show Happening for Lulu, hosted by the "To Sir With Love" singer Lulu. The band play "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" as scheduled, but then veer from the plan during their second number, which is supposed to be a performance of "Hey Joe," with Lulu joining them near the end of the song and then signing off. After getting about halfway though "Hey Joe," Hendrix stops the music and declares, "We'd like to stop playing this rubbish and dedicate a song to the Cream, regardless of what kind of group they may be in. We dedicate this to Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce." The group then launches into "Sunshine Of Your Love" to the dismay of ...
