GABRIELLE SHONK –...

For the millions of people who have already been introduced to Gabrielle Shonk via ‘Habit’ – her instantly arresting first single ‐ the immediate impression is of a new voice arriving so fully formed, so polished and powerful, one can only ask ‘where has she come from?’ Raised in Quebec City, Gabrielle Shonk is the natural product of a creative household, with a blues‐musician father and artist mother. Shonk has been singing since anyone can remember and started writing her own songs as a teenager, Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye providing soulful guidance, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Tracy Chapman teaching subject matter, and The Beatles impressing melody. The craft took hold and she went on to studying Jazz and earning a degree in music. Putting her education to practical application, Shonk honed these skills paying her dues on the club circuit around Quebec City. “Jazz works with a palette of colours which heighten the emotional content ...

SHANIA TWAIN – NOW

This is Shania NOW. “I had to go through a lot in life to get to where I am,” she admits. “I can actually say that I’m home. Optimism is what you hear.” That attitude drives the music. Throughout 2015 and 2016, Shania assembled what would become these 16 tracks. Splitting sessions between Switzerland, the U.S., England, and the Bahamas, she assumed the role of executive producer and co‐produced every song with a handpicked dream team: Ron Aniello, Matthew Koma, Jacquire King, and Jake Gosling. Implementing acoustic instruments like mandolin, banjo, percussion, and guitar, the sonic palette carries what she refers to as “an organic thread” with “a bit of a retro sound,” often veering from roots‐y to soulful. Over this vibrant instrumentation, her songwriting takes center stage. “I’m a songwriter first,” she exclaims. “That absolutely drives everything. It was a big step toward independence. I pushed myself, knowing it was going to scare me and knowing that I, ...

HALEY REINHART – WHAT&...

What’s That Sound? is Haley Reinhart's debut release for Concord Records. The album finds Reinhart digging into her rich musical heritage and reimagining some of rockand‐roll’s most legendary songs. The album features 11 renditions of classic songs from the 1960s, as well as three original tracks from Reinhart. A captivating vocalist who started singing in her parents’ rock band when she was just seven, Reinhart purposely honed in on songs originally released between 1966 and 1969. "There is an undeniable connection between the late ’60s and now,” says Reinhart. "They're both turbulent, yet hopeful times. As I thought of what songs I'd like to reinterpret, I wanted to bring these similarities to the forefront. I also feel the urge to spread the revolutionary idea of people coming together through love and music.” In co‐producing What’s That Sound? with GRAMMY Award‐winner John Burk, Reinhart stayed remarkably authentic to the sonic landscape of the ’60s. Made ...

Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers will release “The Long-Awaited Album” on Rounder Records on September 22. “The Long-Awaited Album,” Martin's newest collaboration with the Grammy-winning North Carolina – based band the Steep Canyon Rangers, is full of stories that mix humor and melancholy, whimsy and realism, rich characters and concrete details. And lots of banjos. That instrument—so dexterously, even acrobatically picked and strummed—is just as crucial to relating these new tales as the lyrics themselves, each chord and riff revealing new depths to Martin’s narrators and to his musical talent. Produced by Peter Asher, the new album is a collection of 14 stunning new songs including the boisterous and humorous new track “Caroline," the deeply romantic tune “All Night Long,” and the fantastical song “Santa Fe,” which showcases the lively dynamic between Martin and the Rangers.
