SARNIA – Today Sarnia-Lambton MPP, Bob Bailey, announced 14 recipients of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Sarnia-Lambton community. MPP Bailey was asked earlier this year, as a Member of Provincial Parliament, to be an advisor to the Chancellery of Honours at Rideau Hall and assist with the nomination process and presentation of medals. In turn, MPP Bailey invited constituents to nominate those they felt were deserving of this rare tribute.
“These 14 people have all made a difference to their community and I’m honoured to be able to recognize them by presenting them with The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal,” said MPP Bailey. “They have all contributed in different ways but they have all shown a dedication to helping others and to public service in our community and beyond.”
The Diamond Jubilee Medal is Canada’s way of celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s 60 years of service to the people of Canada. The Medal recognises outstanding citizens who have helped build the Canada of today through excellence in their field, sustained contributions to their community and country, and significant achievements internationally during the Queen’s reign. Local recipients include people who have contributed through volunteering and founding community organisations, working with veterans, children with disabilities and at risk youth.
The recipients are:
Wilma Arthurs – Bright’s Grove
John Barnfield – Sarnia
Irene Biscaro – Courtright
Leena Bourne – Petrolia
Richard Carpani – Sarnia
Florence (Jean) Doull – Sarnia
Jim Foubister – Bright’s Grove
Carol Graham – Petrolia
John Hull – Oil Springs
Kevin McHarg – Bright’s Grove
Wilma McNeill – Sarnia
Eugene Smith – Petrolia
Mike Stevens – Bright’s Grove
Karen Wilson – Petrolia
MPP Bailey will present The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medals to the recipients at a ceremony later this summer. The medals have a crowned image of the Sovereign on one side while the reverse marks the sixtieth, or diamond, anniversary of her accession to the Throne of Canada as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“We received nominations for many exceptional people who have tirelessly contributed to their community,” said MPP Bailey. “I’m pleased to have this opportunity to recognize some of the people in Sarnia-Lambton who have made outstanding contributions to their peers, our community and our country.”
