What better way to start off a new year then to have a fresh, young band play at Cheeky Monkey for the first First Friday of 2018?
Reminiscence is a group of young musicians who met in the music department at LCCVI high school. Ms Jessica McKay, their high school music, encouraged them to form a jazz combo and inspired each student to continue in music even after graduation. According to the members of Reminiscence, she has continued to be a huge supporter.
After high school each went their own directions, but still manage to make time to get together and practice. Now that is dedication. Noah McRobert (saxophone) has graduated from Lambton College and is now currently working at Toolrite Engineering as a General Machinist. Wesley Langstaff (trombone) is in his third year of the CPET program at Lambton College. Abby Mills (bass) is in her first year at Emmanuel Bible College studying Bachelor of Theology with a youth and family concentration. She is taking a music and worship course and hopes to continue playing bass through that. Julianne Breen (keyboard) is in her third year at Western University getting a Bachelor of Music with a specialization in Music Education in the hopes of becoming a music teacher.
Ryan Breen (percussion) is in his first year at Western University, getting a Bachelor of Music with a specialization in Music Performance with an eye to playing percussion professionally.
Reminiscence listen to and play a diverse variety of music and bands, new and old. Funk, Motown, pop, jazz, and more are all part of their play list. Some of the songs you will hear them play during their performance at Cheeky Monkey are ‘Superstition’ by Stevie Wonder, ‘What’d I Say’ by Ray Charles, ‘Treasure’ by Bruno Mars, and ‘Chameleon’ by Herbie Hancock. With their well trained ears, they have found songs that will work with their instrumentation while they have fun playing them and that their listeners will enjoy hearing.
Stop into Cheeky Monkey at 130 Christina Street North downtown Sarnia from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. during the First Friday evening on January 5th to start 2018 on a most unique and funky note.
