And now for something completely different… and new to Sarnia music lovers. Cheeky Monkey, downtown’s records and more store, is showcasing the four piece band Brother Leeds for their premiere performance in Sarnia during the April 5th First Friday.
Hailing from the London, Ontario area, the core members of Brother Leeds first formed the rock band Social Stone back in 2007. Fast forward to present day and you have Brother Leeds with Brad Coward (drums & vocals) Andrew Malo (guitar & vocals / songwriter) Steve Sinclair (guitar & vocals / songwriter) Ron Van Boheeman (bass & vocals).
They are an old time rock ‘n’ roll band who draw their influences from The Tragically Hip, Rolling Stones, Sloan and Black Crowes to name a few classic rockers. Their no nonsense style blends pulse pounding grooves and riffs with heartfelt lyrics dripping in Canadiana. Their live shows drive home a sense of “rhythm and hum”, and these lads do not disappoint. Proving how versatile Brother Leeds is, they have wowed audiences and made new fans at events as diverse as benefit concerts, Canada Day celebrations right down to private parties.
For their in-store performance at Cheeky Monkey, Brother Leeds plan to do a stripped down version of their show with an acoustic, unplugged feel to it. On their website brotherleeds.com you can preview some of the original songs from their new 6 song EP. A full length album is in the works and coming soon.
While at Cheeky Monkey First Friday for the great music from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., take a moment or two to enjoy the vibrant original artwork created by Bill Walters that is surrounding the band area. Also remember to chat with the 38th Sarnia Pathfinders who will be selling their traditional chocolate and vanilla Girl Guide Cookies from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cookies are nut free and sell for $5.00 a box. Funds raised will support girls in local activities.
