Q.  This band had a hit in 1986 with "Love is Fire". It featured vocals by John Oates of Hall & Oates. What was the name of the band? A.  The Parachute Club was a Canadian band formed in Toronto in 1982. They released three top 40 hits in Canada between 1983 and 1987, including "Rise Up",""At the Feet of the Moon" and "Love Is Fire" (which featured guest duet vocals from John Oates). The band was well known for being one of the first mainstream pop acts in Canada to integrate world music influences, particularly Caribbean styles such as reggae and soca, into their sound. In 1998, the Parachute Club song "Rise Up" was licensed by EMI Music Canada to McCain Foods Limited for a television commercial for self-rising pizza dough. ‘CELEBRATING MEMORY’ 8th Annual Writing Contest All writers are invited to submit a letter, poem, or short story that the photograph (on the ASL website) inspires them to write about celebrating memory, to the ‘CELEBRATING MEMORY’ Writing Contest. Draw on your imagination or facts to sharing your most-treasured memories. The letter, poem or short story is intended to be a celebration of the gift of memory and does not have to be specific to dementia; fiction or nonfiction – just what the photograph inspires you to write (see the Alzheimer Society website for the photograph and contest rules). The objective of the contest is to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, during January Alzheimer awareness month. Submissions from 18 years and older must be accompanied by a $20.00 entry fee, and be considered a donation to the local chapter.
