Trivia Q & A # 49 –...

Q.  What popular Christmas movie does Tom Hanks do six voices in? A.  The Polar Express is a 2004 American 3D computer animated Christmas musical fantasy film based on the 1985 children's book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg, who served as one of the executive producers on the film. Written, produced, and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film features human characters animated using live action motion capture animation. The film stars Daryl Sabara, Nona Gaye, Jimmy Bennett, and Eddie Deezen, with Tom Hanks in six distinct roles.  Tom Hanks  was the voice of the Hero Boy , the Hero Boy's father, the Conductor, the Hobo, Santa Claus, and the Narrator. The film also included a performance by Tinashe at age 9, who later gained exposure as a pop singer in 2010.  The film also marks Michael Jeter's last acting role before his death, and the film was thus dedicated to his memory. The locomotive featured in the film is an American 2-8-4 Berkshire type steam locomotive, with a cowcatcher, modeled after the Pere Marquette 1225, which ...

December 2017 First Friday...

London ON  Cordcalling consisting of husband and wife duo Denise on drums and Kevin of guitar, were our in-store entertainment for the evening of the December 1, 2017 First Friday.  Doing several interesting cover songs with their own distinctive growl and roar to them, along with originals, many customers compared them to The White Stripes, especially as they were doing a White Stripes song.  Some of the other covers they did were U2 'Streets With No Name' where Denise's vocals very much reminded us of Patti Smith and a version of The Beatles 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' that had an urgency and abruptness to it that made it distinctly their own. Along with these and other covers, they performed many originals from their most recent album release called 'We Are Still' . A quote by  Jason Schnieder of the Kitchener Record newspaper describes them very well. This husband-and-wife rock duo ...

Trivia Q & A # 48 –...

Q. What Canadian cities were used for  filming the perennial holiday favourite movie (at least at our house), 'A Christmas Story'? A.  Director Bob Clark reportedly sent scouts to twenty cities before selecting Cleveland for exterior filming. Cleveland was chosen because of Higbee's Department Store in downtown Cleveland.  Until they connected with Higbee's, location scouts had been unsuccessful in finding a department store that was willing to be part of the film. Higbee's vice president Bruce Campbell agreed to take part in the project on the condition he be allowed to edit the script for cursing. Ultimately, Higbee's was the stage for three scenes in the film. In addition to the scenes involving Higbee's, the exterior shots (and select interior shots where Ralphie lived, including the opening of the leg lamp) of the house and neighborhood, were filmed in the Tremont section of Cleveland's West Side. The house used as the Parker home in these scenes has been restored, reconfigured inside to ...

Trivia Q & A # 47 –...

Q. The album "she" contained the singles "Tango" and "Black on Black", which were this artist's most successful singles. Her songs have been covered by Heart, Queensryche, Helix and Melissa Manchester. Name the artist. A. Dalbello (born 22 May 1959 as Lisa Dal Bello) is a Canadian recording artist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and voice actress. She released three albums in the pop and pop/rock genre in her late teens, from 1977 through 1981 under her full name. In 1984, she re-emerged as Dalbello, with an edgier brand of alternative rock. Signing with MCA Records out of L.A. when she was 17, Dalbello's self-titled debut album in 1977, produced by David Foster, won her a 1978 Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year.  Despite her win, however, MCA dropped her from the label because the album's production had been too expensive. She formed her own label, Talisman Records, to release her second album Pretty Girls, and received her second Juno nomination in 1979 in the category of Female ...
