IRON MAIDEN - THE BOOK OF SOULS

Posted in: What's New | No Comments

Following confirmation from the group that 2010's The Final Frontier would not be their last album, Bruce Dickinson revealed plans for a sixteenth studio record, with a release date in 2015. Fast forward to June, when the band officially announced the release of The Book Of Souls on September 4th, 2015. Recorded at the familiar Guillaume Tell Studios, Paris, where the band had recorded 2000's Brave New World, with regular producer Kevin Shirley in late summer 2014. With a total time of 92 minutes, it is the group's first double studio album. In addition, the release's closing song, "Empire of the Clouds", penned by Dickinson, replaces "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" (from 1984's Powerslave) as Iron Maiden's longest song, at 18 minutes in length.

K-OS - CAN’T FLY WITHOUT GRAVITY

Posted in: What's New | No Comments

Can’t Fly Without Gravity captures all of the different sides that make up k-os’ musical DNA. It's an affirmation that “the forces which pull you down are simply put there to inspire you to rise above them” and promises to be a more stripped-down, holistic effort than its highly conceptual predecessor, 2012’s double-LP opus Black on Blonde. However, the rock-vs. rap dialectic at that album’s core still guides k-os on a more philosophical level: it’s not just a question of reconciling disparate musical styles, but of differing workflow strategies. To be k-os in 2015 is to find the happy medium between hip-hop’s penchant for rapid-fire releases and perpetual stylistic mutation with the more measured approach and timeless aspirations of rock ‘n’ roll artists—all while engineering his music for a post-EDM pop landscape that has not only changed listeners’ tastes, but their very physiology. k-os’s insightful approach to music making has proven he is an artist with boundless limits, and certainly not one that appeases to fluctuating mainstream ...

Posted in: What's New | No Comments

Featuring Dan Auerbach, Richard Swift, Leon Michels, Homer Steinweiss & Nick Movshon! The Arcs’ debut album, Yours, Dreamily, will be released Friday, September 4 on Nonesuch Records. In anticipation of the release, “Stay in My Corner” was premiered on June 9 at NPR Music. Of the song, NPR Music’s Stephen Thompson praises, “…it's got a slinky, timeless feel, propelled with alluring ease by Auerbach's falsetto and a lush instrumental backdrop befitting The Arcs' roster.” The Arcs will be touring in support of the album; details will be announced soon. The Arcs collaboratively wrote and recorded 13 tracks for Yours, Dreamily, with the musicians playing a large array of roles both vocally and instrumentally. Co-produced by Auerbach and Michels, the album was recorded in roughly two weeks through spontaneous, informal sessions across the country at the Sound Factory in Los Angeles, the Diamond Mine in Queens, Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound in Nashville, and in a lounge room at Electric Lady in Manhattan. Tchad Blake mixed the album on ...

WES MACK - EDGE OF THE STORM

Posted in: What's New | No Comments

From the stage and silver screen to behind the scenes, Wes Mack is undeniably the entertainment industry’s Jackof- all-trades – between numerous television roles, impassioned songwriting, matchless vocals and a seat in the Director’s chair (Mack self-directed the videos for “Before You Drive Me Crazy”, “Duet” & “Our Soundtrack”), his charm and star quality are irrefutable. Following a landmark year in 2013 with back-to-back radio hits (Duet & Our Soundtrack), being named the inaugural winner of the CCMA’s Discovery Program and named the Grand Prize winner of Unsigned Only Music Competition, Mack spent much of 2014 in studio recording his major label debut in strategic partnership with Universal Music Canada and Nashville-based Big Machine Label Group. 2015 continues to be an incredible year for this Calgary native who hit Top 10 at radio and video with Before You Drive Me Crazy, secured the opening slot on Shania Twain’s cross Canada tour and two CCMA nods!

YO LA TENGO - STUFF LIKE THAT THERE

Posted in: What's New | No Comments

Stuff Like That There is a 14 song collection of covers, originals and reworking(s) that happens to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Yo La Tengo’s landmark 1990 album, Fakebook. Recorded with Gene Holder (The Feelies), Stuff Like That There as the trio of Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew augmented by the guitarist and former Yo La Tengo member Dave Schramm, with James negotiating the wonders of the upright bass for the first time. A video for their cover of The Cure’s “Friday I’m In Love”, directed by Jason Woliner, may or may not prophecize a near apocalyptic event. This specific fearsome foursome — playing material from Stuff Like That There and maybe, possibly/probably (we really don’t dictate repertoire around here) ‘Fakebook’ will kick off a world tour in September to include Sept. 30th Toronto (Queen Elizabeth Theatre), Oct. 2nd Montréal (Corona Theatre), and Nov. 21st Vancouver (Commodore). On 1990’s Fakebook:  “This is Yo La Tengo laying out the vast ...
