Cheeky Charlie’s REAR VIEW MIRROR Encounter

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, News | No Comments

Lucky for Cheeky Charlie and us, we were open for business on Sunday, November 25 so Paul & Andrew of REAR VIEW MIRROR could stop in to shop.  Rear View Mirror is a Pearl Jam Tribute band that played the night before at The Stubborn Mule. It was really great to meet the guys and chat about their Sarnia show.  They both commented on it being a fun show with an enthusastic audience.  Also discussed how stores like Cheeky Monkey are few and far between anymore and they seemed to throughly enjoy browsing the bins of CD's and records both new and used.  Each of them took home many treasures along with our flyer so they can check us out on line and know what our regular hours are so they can make a point of stopping by again in the future. We look forward to seeing them again next time they play ...

Wall to Wall Weekend Music

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, Art, Concerts & Events, First Friday, Local Talent, News | No Comments

The weekend started out on the right note during the September First Friday.  Young singer and songwriter Elena Feick played all original songs she composed as the First Friday crowds moved around the room looking at the artwork of Jale Fancey. Elena's songs, though sung softly, carry much emotion and meaning in them.  Somewhat like the art of Jale.  All pieces are photographs she took that have been enlarged and printed onto stretched canvas.  Her favourite subject matter of nature are similtaniously calming and exciting to look at.  Also as part of her exhibit that is on display until the end of September, there are smaller matted versions and greeting cards for sale.  My personal picks are a group displayed together with fall colours.  Very timely indeed.  My other favourite is a close up of an intensly red Chrysanthemum.  It literally pops from the canvas. Following the First Friday comes Saturday of ...

July First Friday Fun @ Cheeky Monkey

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, Concerts & Events, First Friday, Local Talent, News | No Comments

Yes it was hot enough to fry an egg on the hood of a car during the July 2012 First Friday.  That fact that didn't stop the Lambton MainStreet Players from performing for over an hour outside in front of Cheeky Monkey.  These young ladies are true musical troopers.  With acoustic instruments of guitars, beatbox and assorted percussion instrments, they entertained the audience with their wonderful harmonies on songs  both current as well as old favorites.  Three of the four were in the line up for last years Lambton MainStreet Players but all have singing and performing experience.  The group consists of Orley Culverhouse, Riley Martin, Sarah Caraher and Amy Mayea.  Helping with set up and running the sound systems in the mostly unseen Jon Rowed.  Watch for them at other upcoming Lambton County events throughout the summer, including perhaps a return performance at Cheeky Monkey. About the same time the ...

Cheeky Charlie’s Fun in the Sun

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, Concerts & Events, Local Talent, News | No Comments

Saturday, June 23rd was a beautiful sunny summer day.  The kind that is perfect for grooving to some cool music and Cheeky Charlie knew just the band to fill the need - STEADFAST. Scott, the bass player arrived first and helped set up the Red Carpet Stage outside in front of Cheeky Monkey.  Early afternoon is the perfect time for live music outside the store.  The tree gives just the right amount of shade to those stopping to enjoy the band.  Sometimes the band gets to work on their tan though. Once drummer Gerry and singer/guitairist Leigh arrived, they were set up and entertaining passers-by in no time at all.  Since it was such a beautiful day, many of the people who lingered to listen were riding bikes of one kind or another. STEADFAST played mostly original songs with a few cover tunes thrown in for variety.  Leigh's distinctive vocals are always standout ...

School Comes To Cheeky Charlie

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, Friends & Neighbours, News | No Comments

Cheeky Charlie has been on pins and needles for a week anticipating the annual tour of Sarnia's downtown by the Grade 1 class from P.E. McGibbon Elementary School.  He got extremely excited when Mrs. Poore, their teacher, lead the group into the front door of Cheeky Monkey for a tour of the store. He got even more excited when the kids all sat on the floor to have their picture taken with him and instead of saying "cheese" like most people do when they have a photo taken, they all hollered out  "CHEEKY MONKEY"!  It was awesome.  Cheeky Charlie had never heard the name of his home said so loudly - and with so many giggles after it too. As the kids left the store on their way to discover another downtown business, Cheeky Charlie helped Mary Anne and Roland hand out Cheeky Monkey stickers to each and every student and volunteer in ...

Cheeky Charlie Meets Daylight for Deadeyes

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, Friends & Neighbours, News | No Comments

What busy boys Andy, Matt and Chris are.  They are the members of the Toronto based band DAYLIGHT FOR DEADEYES.  They stopped into shop and drop off some of their CD's between local gigs.  Paddy Flaherty's on Friday June 8 and the Corunna Firefighters Field Days on Saturday June 9. While at Cheeky Monkey they bought themselves several Beatles gear admitting they are big fans and very influenced by them.  They handed Cheeky Charlie copies of all three of their CD's to sell at Cheeky Monkey.  So if you miss seeing them live, you can pick up their CD's to own. (See tab above for MUSIC BAZAAR) They also mentioned they would like to play in store when they are booked in the area again.  You should have seen how excited Cheeky Charlie was about that possibility!  Of course we would love to have them in here on a Saturday afternoon.  Cheeky ...

Cheeky Charlie Meets Sean Hogan

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, Concerts & Events, Local Talent, News | No Comments

Cheeky Charlie felt very honoured to have a chance to meet and chat with Sean Hogan recently when he stopped in to drop off some of his CD's for us to sell  and buy a CD for himself. Sean is back in his home town of Sarnia to  perform at The Stubborn Mule on Saturday June 9th with opening act Whiskey Rain.  Advance tickets are only $12.00 - so get them while you can at Cheeky Monkey.  They will be more at the door. We here in Sarnia are very proud of Sean and all he has accomplished to this point in his career.  He is the winner of  multiple Country music awards, nominated almost every year since his first CD came out.  His uniquely authentic blend of “alt-country” and “modern rustic pop” immediately caught the attention of country radio and music fans across Canada, leading to his first Canadian Country Music ...

Saturday Sunshine with Paul Federici

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, Concerts & Events, News | No Comments

The early afternoon of Saturday May 19th was the perfect day for singer/songwriter Paul Federici to perform outside in front of Cheeky Monkey.    Our famous Red Carpet was spread out on the sidewalk under the windows, the heavy duty extension cord was plugged in, the rugged old bar stool was positioned just right and the weather was better then perfect. Paul was all set up with his 2 favourite acoustic guitars to play for the passer-bys both on foot, in cars or motorcycles.  Many a green light was missed by drivers who wanted to linger a little longer to hear Paul playing. He did a wonderful mix of cover songs from Bob Dylan, Neil Young, City & Colour and Tragically Hip to name a few, along with his own penned songs.  Cheeky Charlie very much enjoyed his cover versions, but preferred his originals.  Paul has a very sensitive soul and a ...
