EMM GRYNER & DAYNA MANNING - SEPTEMBER 23 2011

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, Concerts & Events, News | No Comments

Charlie has a great view of Dayna Manning On Friday September 23rd, Cheeky Charlie went to the library, not for books but because Emm Gryner's CD release concert was going on in the auditorium. He managed to get the best seat in the house - on top of one of the house speakers on the right side of the stage. The show started with a solo set from Stratford's Dayna Manning. Dayna, who currently resides in northern British Columbia, was a late addition to the bill. She happened to be in the neighborhood and has opened for Emm in the past so inviting her to perform was what they call a no brainer. Dayna not only performed songs from her three albums, but also some new ones yet to be recorded, including one that was being performed for the first time ever. The new song, called Charlie, is definitely a keeper. Danya Manning's most ...

Mike Stevens stopped by…

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, News | No Comments

Harmonica hero, Mike Stevens, one of THE busiest musicians we know, took time to stop in and say hi to us while on his last visit home.  Between his gigs around the world and his work in the far north with at-risk youth for ArtsCan Circle, it is surprising he has time for a social life at all.  We very much enjoy hearing of his lastest journeys and catching up on local news with him. While here and snuggling with Cheeky Charlie,  he asked if we knew he has a new CD  due out Sept 27 called 'Push Record: Banff Sessions'.  It is another collaboration with amazing East Coast blues guiarist/singer Matt Andersen.  OF COURSE WE KNEW! and will have it in stock on release day. Their previous CD together 'Piggyback' was  such a success and they had so much fun doing it - they decided to do it again!  Mike gave ...

Cheeky Charlie’s Birthday Bash

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, News | No Comments

The phase "a good time was had by all" applies to the Birthday Bash for Cheeky Charlie on Sunday Sept. 18 at Cheeky Monkey.  Many old and new friends stopped in to enjoy cake, banana chips, potato chips, banana gummies and chocolate chip cookies. One of his favourite local bands, Soul Patch provided the live music for the day.  Along with their special guest drummer, they kept everyone's toes tappin and even a few people dancing to their original songs from their self titled CD (available at Cheeky Monkey of course). Oh the deals - did we mention the deal - EVERYTHING in the store was a special low prices!  The gift bags given out to the guests were a big hit too.  They were full of surprises. Cheeky Charlie is particularly grateful to Tara for helping serve the cake, Mike & Patty for the gift of the pouch to keep his treasures ...

Cheeky Charlie meets Lickpenny Loafer

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, News | No Comments

On Friday Sept. 16, Cheeky Charlie spent a pleasant evening enjoying a cold pint and listening to the Toronto band Lickpenny Loafer at Paddy Flaherty's. He had read about this band from the event calendar on the Cheeky Monkey website and thought they sounded interesting.  A phone call from lead singer Arunachal with a personal invitation to come to Paddy's in the hope of meeting was hard to resist.  After the band's first set, Cheeky Charlie decided to be bold and introduced himself in person. Not only is the band extremely talented musically, but Cheeky Charlie wondered if Arunachal was a scholor or doctor of psychology. He had great insight into the current music fan and musicians which made for a very interesting conversation that was cut short when the next set had to start up.  Time does slip away when you are enjoying yourself. To his surprise (and slight embarrassment), ...

Cheeky Charlie’s Sept 2011 First Friday

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, News | No Comments

September 2nd First Friday turned out to be a hot steamy night filled with surprises.  The entertainment for the evening was Sarnia's own singer-songwriter Mark Blayney.  Mark is remembered by many as the key performer at Robbie B's.  Since those days, Mark has put out a CD entitiled 'Me and My Guitar' with a second volume due out soon.  All his songs come straight from the heart making them feel like he is speaking for you. Duirng Septemeber's First Friday, Mark was joined on the Cheeky Monkey Red Carpet Stage by Wulf Von Waldow on saxaphone and Mike Blackmore on d'jembe.  This was a pleasant surprise to those of us listening.  The added musicians brought a whole new texture to Mark's songs.  We all thought Mike was here to just show his artwork.  Each year he organizes a fun event called Mud People in Brights Grove.  Everyone is welcome for a day of sun, ...

Hunting for Cheeky Charlie

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, News | No Comments

Cheeky Charlie had a blast recently with the Sarnia Photographic Club.  He was hunted, literally, as part of their 2nd Annual Scavenger Hunt entitled "Hawaiian Hunt and Hi-Jinx". This was one hunt we didn't have to purchase firearms & tactical equipment from Palmetto State Armory for. We lost count, but about 9 teams of eager and almost frantic scavenger hunters came in looking for things like guitar picks (several souvenier ones are hanging on the wall including one from Matt Andersen), maple leafs (one team found it on a touque we have for sale that has a Canada Flag on it), Pink Floyd CD (no shortage of those at Cheeky Monkey) and a vinyl record with a date of 2010 on it (no problem there either since we sell NEW and used LP's).  The most unique item they had to quest for was Cheeky Charlie himself.  The hunters instruction told them they had to have me ...

Cheeky Charlie plays with hue

Posted in: ADVENTURES OF CHEEKY CHARLIE, News | No Comments

Cheeky Charlie sitting in with hue Friday August 19 was a big day for Cheeky Charlie.  He got his first crush on a girl.  The object of his affection is the lovely singer with the band 'hue'.  Cheeky Charlie met Jessica while the band was at Cheeky Monkey for a special in-store (actually outside) acoustic performance in the sunshine of the afternoon.  He was honoured to be allowed to sit in with the band and even better dance with his sweetie.  Later that night, hue played at Paddy Flaherty's.  Roland and I went to Paddy's to hear hue play with full amplification.  Their brand of catchy pop is certainly infectious. Dancing with Jessica of hue - being a Cheeky Charlie is GOOD! You can't help but bounce along to such great tunes as 'Bump' off their new CD 'Starting Fires' - which is available to buy in-store at Cheeky Monkey or ...
